Image description One of the works of Ian Bilbey

To Sir Paul Smith, using flowers as a motif in his collections is his way of paying tribute to the idea of freedom which defined the flower power era in the late 60s and early 70s (in his new book Paul Smith: A to Z, F stands for Flowers). Maybe that’s the reason why Sir Paul Smith is British illustrator Ian Bilbey’s most supportive client – he has designed window displays, posters and minis for the British fashion designer. Flowers feature strongly in Bilbey’s childlike work, which is full of colours and joy.

Besides Ian Bilbey, I’m also a fan of German illustrator Olaf Hajek and Polish illustrator Przemek Sobocki, who also use flowers as a motif in their work. Hajek, who paints his illustrations, is deeply influenced by Frida Kahlo while Sobocki serves up dream-like landscapes in his work.
